Hamahiga IslandToday I’m going to introduce the Japanese family-style restaurant on the island – Marukichi Food. Marukichi Food is right next to the port, so the seafood they sell is definitely the freshest. Let’s take a look!

How to get to Marukichi Foods?

If you drive from Naha city, the journey takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Along the way, you will pass the famous underwater road. After driving along the underwater road and passing Heianza Island, you will see Hamahiga Bridge on the right. After crossing the bridge, you will reach Hamahiga Island.

Marukichi Foods Introduction

Marukichi Food's building is unassuming, and those driving can park directly across from the restaurant by the harbor. Marukichi Food offers both outdoor and indoor seating.

The dining area is decorated with photos of the owner and many celebrities, many of whom have dined there. However, the wealthy man only knew Taichi Kokubun, who has been in the news lately. They also sell homemade pickles and offer free iced tea.

The wealthy family arrived around 1:30 PM. The restaurant was quite deserted today, with the owner, the only one in charge, handling everything from reception to ordering and even cooking. The old lady was truly impressive and full of energy. The special was the wealthy wife's favorite stir-fried squid, so order one to try.

I've shared the rest of Marukichi Food's menu here, featuring traditional Japanese home-style dishes like fried chicken set meal, Okinawa noodles, yakiniku set meal, and fried noodles. Most dishes are priced around 1,000 yen. The Okinawan-style bitter melon fried noodles are 900 yen, which is quite affordable. The menu is translated into Chinese, so you don't have to worry about ordering the wrong dish.

The middle one is the 900 yen yakiniku set meal, which the wealthy man found a bit small. On the right is the fried squid set meal, also 900 yen. The squid was fresh and tender. It comes with rice and miso soup. The owner's stir-frying skills are top-notch, and the aroma right after it's done is simply heavenly, comparable to Taiwanese stir-fries. The wealthy man found the taste quite good, though a bit salty. The wealthy family was so hungry that they devoured it all in one sitting. You can also get free refills of rice!

This time, the rich man sat in the outdoor area, where he could feel the sea breeze, smell the sea, and have a good view of the harbor.

But for those who come to Okinawa in the summer and want to avoid the sun, Marukichi Food also has an indoor dining area. It is a very warm Japanese family dining environment, which is shared with friends who like seafood.

Rich Man Experience and Evaluation

Marukichi Food is owned by a grandmother who is incredibly energetic at such an advanced age. The food is affordable, delicious, and parking is convenient. I think anyone driving through Okinawa's coastal roads should stop by to encourage the owner and show some support.

Oh, and the beach at nearby Shirinrekyu Park is beautiful! For more on Okinawa beach fun, check out this post by Rich Man.Recommended Okinawa Seaside Spots: Popular Beaches, Snorkeling, and Must-Sees for Family Tripsoh.
